Depressed & Anxious in the City
Research shows that rates of depression and anxiety are much higher in urban areas. With cities growing at the rate that they are, open spaces will soon be near to non-existent if not completely gone. As much as we’d like to think that we’re not, we’re still animals, and closed spaces stress us out. This raised the question: how might I bring awareness and combative strategies for mental illness to people in the city?
The solution became a set of miniature self-help books that offer small changes in daily habits. Written in a laid back, friendly tone, the books offer helpful hints based on psychological studies and reminders to keep mental wellness as a priority. Two books are currently in the series, each focusing on the internal and external causes and solutions to mental wellbeing respectively. Intentionally designed with a keepsake quality in mind, the booklets are small enough to fit within a credit card slot in most wallets. However, this is just an entry point into a conversation about mental health. The booklets redirect the viewer to an app version that offers additional resources.
